Remember all those predictions about flying cars? The day has finally arrived! (Sort of)
Big dreams and future-forward thinking have been poured into the Tesla. It’s got a SpaceX package with cold-gas thrusters and a powerful fan that lets it hug the road in ways we could never have DREAMED possible on anything bigger than a HotWheels play set.
[If you’re in a hurry and only want to see the tricks the car can perform, without the full context and conversation, you can get the gist of it with a recap played at the end of the video starting just after the 15 minute mark.)
Imagine a car capable of taking corners at 2 gs (as in g-forces), without spinning out? That’s just the beginning of what’s this beast can pull off.
Time for a ClashDaily mea culpa. When Elon presented his CyberTruck and we all laughed as he proceeded to shatter his shatterproof glass, we piled on along with them.
Unlike the ‘rapid unscheduled dissassembly’ of his rockets, failing that test, in such a public way, was an embarrassing setback.
Credit where it’s due, he kept innovating. Kept growing. Kept looking for ways to push the envelope just a little further. To make a car do things that defy known laws of physics.
Can you make a car climb up a wall?
Hang upside down?
Jump without a ramp?
Barrel roll?
Zero to sixty in less than a second?
What about flipping directly up in the air and landing safely back on your wheels just a couple of feet from where you started? From a dead stop?
This video sets out to answer exactly those questions with the unveiling of Telsa’s new Roadster. It borrows tech from SpaceX… and it’s about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
That’s right. I may have been laughing at Elon’s break glass moment, and second-guessing self-driving when it was mowing down grannies in a closed track.
But I’m NOT laughing anymore. Especially when the upper limit of acceleration is not measured in mechanical capability, but the tolerance limits of forces the human body is capable of safely sustaining without ‘destroying the human inside’, or ‘detaching a retina’.
And for those of us (barely) old enough to remember a daredevil known as Evel Knievel, who once infamously attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon…? Elon’s already talking about NEW feats of daring his Roadster can attempt.
And he’s got something in store that connects to both the Knievel and his legacy.
Be sure to stick around to where they talk about specs near the end. He has big dreams for JUST how fast he wants his upper limit to be.
