One option is to bury news that hurts your side (say, spiking the Hunter laptop or refusing to talk about the success of the Abraham Accords in hammering out peace in the Middle East), while emphasizing news that helps your side (Joe wearing his shades while driving a convertable or blaming Trump for Covid response while running endless panic porn).
But sometimes, the story is a serious threat to election success that is too alarming to ignore. In such cases, you draw attention to the story in the same way that wary herd animals draw attention to the presence of a predator.
Rather than just a neutral reporting of objective reality, it is a subtle call to action.
MSDNC’s Steve Kornacki is reporting a story about Trump and Biden poll numbers, but the detail being stressed is interesting. Does this look like the straight reporting of facts to you?
Or so you see this as Steve trying to sound the alarm that Trump is on the march and ‘you people’ need to take this threat seriously?
